AGRI 4-18 CPD (Critical Point Dryer)

A CPD (Critical Point Dryer) is a device used to dry biological or material samples using a specialized method that prevents damage typically caused by drying in regular conditions. In the CPD process, the sample undergoes a phase transition from liquid to gas without passing through the liquid phase, reducing the risk of bubble formation or distortion of the sample, especially in the case of sensitive biological specimens. The process is performed by increasing pressure and temperature until the substance (usually a liquid like water or a biological solution) transitions directly from a liquid state to a gaseous state (without going through the liquid phase). This process takes place under high pressure conditions and includes a critical phase change where the liquid evaporates into a gas without the sample undergoing typical dehydration, which could be harmful to delicate specimens.
